Verisign, the registry operator for the .COM domain extension, has announced a series of price increases for .COM domain registrations and renewals.

Effective September 1, 2024, the wholesale price charged to registrars rose. A further increase is scheduled for September 1, 2024, raising the wholesale rate too. Under the terms of Verisign's updated agreement with ICANN — the global non-profit organization overseeing domain names — the wholesale cost of .COM domains may continue to rise by up to 7% annually in the coming years.

What This Means for You

Bahaddin Yazıcı, CEO of Domain Name API, advises both domain registrants and resellers to take action now:

“Domain owners can protect themselves from future price hikes and currency fluctuations by renewing their domains for up to 10 years at current pricing. This is a smart way to reduce costs long-term and secure your domain portfolio.”

In addition to Verisign's price increases, domain name registrars must also account for the $0.18 ICANN fee, applicable taxes, and their own operating margins — all of which will factor into the final price customers pay.

Take Advantage of Current Pricing

We encourage all domain owners to review their domain portfolios and renew any important domains before the next scheduled price increase. Locking in today’s pricing can offer significant savings over time.

If you have questions about multi-year renewals or want help reviewing your portfolio, our team is here to assist.

Secure your domains today, and stay ahead of tomorrow’s price changes.
